1 Day.- LA PAZ – SORATA
We leave La Paz at 9.00 am, driving across the altiplano along the Cordillera Real, and passing close to Lake Titikaka. Then via the villages of Achacachi and Warasita where we will have our first view of the imposing nevadas of Illampu and Ancohuma, before arriving at the picturesque town of Sorata, 2,700m. On arrival at the hotel we take lunch and in the afternoon we enjoy a gentle stroll down the valley to the cave and underground lake of San Pedro, the site of ancient Inca mines.
2 Day.- SORATA – LAGUNA CHILATA
In the morning we set out for laguna Chilata 4,200m, passing through the picturesque fields of maize and other crops in the high valleys of Sorata. We also have the chance of seeing various Andean fauna en route. At Laguna Chilata we make camp and aftrer an evening meal, rest for the night.
3 Day.- LAGUNA CHILATA – LAGUNA GLACIAR.
Today we make an early start, and after breakfast we depart for Laguna Glaciar, passing abandoned mines, and ascending on, with spectactular views of the surrounding high mountains and valleys. Thus we arrive at Lagunba Glaciar 5,030m where we make camp and enjoy a hearty evening meal.
4 Day.- LAGUNA GLACIAR – HIGH CAMP
After breakfasting, we continue on to high camp, at 5,750m, a hike of around four hours which takes us to the camp overlooking the glacier. Here we take an early meal and rest for summit day.
5 Day.- SUMMIT – LAGUNA CHILATA
At 1.00am we start the six or seven hour climb to the summit of Ancohuma 6.427m. After taking the photos and enjoying the spectacular early morning vews we begin the descent to base camp at Laguna Chilata 4,200m where we rest for the last night.
6 Day.- LAGUNA CHILATA – SORATA – LA PAZ.
After breakfasting we continue the descent to Sorata from where we continue by road back to La Paz, arriving back in the city in the afternoon.
