Day 1.- LA PAZ – SORATA – LACHATHIYA
At 07:00 am we leave La Paz, passing along the beautiful landscape of the Cordillera Real, close to Lake Titicaca. Then through the towns of Achacachi and Warisata, from where the imposing nevadas of Ancohuma and Illampu can be seen. Then we reach the beautiful mountain town of Sorata, altitude 2,700m, where we spend the night in a hotel.
Day 2. – SORATA – LACHATHIYA
After breakfasting , we pack the mules and start the trek through beautiful rural scenery around Sorata, and enjoying many views of the imposing nevada Illampu. Then we reach the first camp at Lachathiya, altitude 3,850m, where we rest for the second night.
Day 3.- LACHATHIYA – JANQ’U UMA
We leave in the morning and continue climbing up to the Ancohuma pass, altitude 4,749m, from where the scenery of the high valleys of Sorata, a lot of Andean flora and fauna can be seen. Then we descend to 3,900m, camping at Janq’u uma.
Day 4.- JANQ’U UMA – COCOYO
A two-hour walk takes us to the Kurahuasi pass, altitude 4,479 m, before we descend to the river, and pass through the village of Cocoyo, continuing to the campsite at altitude 3,850m, a total six hours of trekking.
Day 5.- COCOYO – CHAJOLPAYA
With a 2-hour ascent to 4,500m, we reach the Sarani pass. From where we can see the nevadas of Warani Wara (Negruni) and also the river Chajolpaya. From there we can see the nevado Calzada, and a variety of flora and fauna of the area.
Day 6.- RIO CH’AJOLPAYA – NEGRUNI.
After breakfast, we continue the trek for 3 hours up to the Warawarani pass, altitude 4,900m, near the glaciers of these mountains, overlooking Chajowara, then down to the campsite near a lake at altitude 4,100m, where we rest for the third night.
Day 7. NEGRUNI – LLOCO LLOCONI
Six hours following the river Chiquini down to the church of Palca, then up through the Waraco cerranías, to reach the campsite in the Tres Marias mountains.
Day 8. LLOCO LLOCONI – VENADA
After breakfast we start to walk towards another pass, altitude 4,800m, passing by small lagunas with a chance to see Andean fauna, then descending through the gorge to the little river which is near the cart road, heading in the direction of Venada.
Day 9. VENADA – KOTIA
After breakfast we head up to Mollo pass, altitude 4,900m, and from there we descend to the valley of Janq’u Quta, passing vaious lakes and glaciers in these mountains, and mines and thus descend to the camp at Quta Thiya, altitude 4,650 m.
Day 10. KOTIA – AJWANI
After breakfast we continue up the hillside to Chacapa where abandoned gold mines and the beautiful scenery of the plateau are observed. Then we continue down to the grasslands, and on up to the camp at Ajwani, altitude 4,700 m. A total of six hours of trekking.
Day 11. AJWANI – JURI QUTA
In another six hours of trekking through the Janchallani pass, altitude 4,860m, we reach the second pass at Juri Quta, altitude 4,900 m, then we descend to the camp at Laguna Juri Quta, altitude 4,700 m.
Day 12 JURI QUTA – PICO AUSTRIA – CONDORIRI
We continue to the Apacheta pass, reaching the highest point of the trek, which is the summit of Pico Austria, altitude 5,300 m. From here we have spectacular views of the whole group of Condoriri mountains. Then we descend to laguna Chiara Quta, altitude 4,700 m. This is the base camp for climbing the several mountains of the Condoriri massif.
Day 13. CONDORIRI – TUNI – LA PAZ.
After breakfast we prepare all the camping gear, load the mules and continue down to the small town of Tuni, altitude 4,200m, where transport awaits to return us to La Paz in the afternoon.
