1 Day.- LA PAZ – BASE CAMP
Leaving the office at 9:00am, a two hour drive takes us to the refugio at 4,700m. After lunch, we set out for the nearby glacier, a 30 minute walk, where we practice ice technique. We return to the refuge in the early evening for dinner and rest for the night.
2 Day.- BASE CAMP – HIGH CAMP.
After breakfasting, we start the hike up to high camp, which takes only three hours or so. The high camp refugio is at an altitude of 5,200m, and after lunch we rest and acclimatize. We eat an early evening meal and get as much sleep as possible, to be ready for the early start.
3 Day.- HIGH CAMP – SUMMIT – LA PAZ.
At 1:00 am we prepare the climbing gear, and after a light breakfast start the climb. In 5 or 6 hours, we cross cross the glacier and ascend up to the summit, 6,088m. From here we have spectacular dawn views along the Cordillera to the North and out over the forests of the yungas. 3 hours or so descent gets us back to high camp where we eat a little and rest before contuining the descent to base camp. There we meet the vehicle for the return journey to La Paz, arriving in the early afternoon, around 2:00 pm.
