KOTIA – QUTA THIYA to HUAYNA POTOSI 6 days

1 Day.- LA PAZ – QUTA THIYA

Depart La Paz at 9:00 a.m. and after 4 hours by road we arrive at the campsite near Lake Quta Thiya, altitude 4,650 m, a beautiful landscape with lots of wildlife and vegetation of the area. Then we walk around the lake and relax for the rest of the afternoon.

2 Day.- QUTA THIYA – AJWANI

After breakfast we start trekking towards the pass at 4,850m, passing Chacapa mountain where abandoned gold mines are observed, we descend to the grasslands and then go on to make camp at Ajwani, altitude 4,670m. A total of six hours trekking.

3 Day.- AJWANI – JURI QUTA

In six hours of trekking, over 5,100 m altitude, we have the beautiful highland landscape, then we descend to the Juri Quta pass and so reach the camp of the laguna Juri Quta, altitude 4,690 m, and a very quiet place to watch the sunset before resting for the night.

4 Day.- JURI QUTA – CHIYARA QUTA

We walk from Laguna Juri Quta, up near the glacier of Mount Ventanani and continue on up to the 5,300m Pico Austria, the highest point from where we can see all of Lake Titicaca and also the Condoriri group of mountains. Then we descend towards the base camp of Condoriri, at laguna Chiyara Quta, altitude 4,700m.

5 Day.- CHIYARA QUTA – MARIA LLOCO

At 08:00 am we breakfast and prepare all the camping gear, before climbing up to the 5,100m pass from where we descend the other side of the mountain and continue up to another 4,900m pass, before descending once more through various gorges. So after 6 hours trekking we reach Maria Lloco where we rest the night.

6 Day .- MARIA LLOCO – HUAYNA POTOSI

After breakfast we climb to another pass, Milluni, altitude 5,100m where there are abandoned mines, and then descend to the laguma Janqu Quta, before heading to the Huayna Potosi base camp, a hike of 4-5 hours. We arrive at around 12:00 noon. Finally we take private transport back to the city of La Paz, arriving at around 14:00 p.m.
